To Volunteer at 50 Dog Shelters in 50 Weeks around the coast of Portugal and Spain!
I’d always promised Daisy she could live her twilight years by the sea. She LOVES the sea and has just turned 9! So I owed her. Plus I’d volunteered at a couple of rescues in Portugal and Spain and realised just how much these places needed extra help. They’d welcomed me and let me spend time with the dogs. And nothing beats going for a walk/run with rescue dogs – nothing! So I owed them. And then there’s me. For some reason I’ve never quite fitted into the standard boxes society likes to set for people. But one thing is for sure – I’ve ALWAYS loved dogs! So I guess I owed myself.
The challenge had to finish on Daisy’s 10th Birthday, which meant starting on March 9th 2018.
So the aim is to raise awareness of the shelters, the dogs, the amazing people who work so tirelessly, and of how rewarding it is to volunteer, giving your time to a cause greater than yourself.
What are my personal aims? Well, mainly to try and live in the moment, learn to serve others, enjoy the journey, not fear the unknown, and give thanks for good things in the world.
Let’s see how it goes…
